The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna) has called on Nigerian universities to adopt innovative and diversified funding strategies to ensure long-term financial stability and independence.
This was the central message at the University’s 4th Annual Bursary Lecture, held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the School of Information and Communication Technology (SICT) Lecture Theatre, Main Campus.
Delivering the lecture titled “Exploring Revenue Diversification for Financial Sustainability of Nigerian Universities: Problems and Prospects,” President and Chairman of Council, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Dr. Haruna Yahaya, urged universities to look beyond government subventions and explore alternative revenue streams.
He identified consultancy services, endowment funds, alumni engagement, industry partnerships, and research commercialization as key strategies for achieving financial sustainability, noting that such measures would strengthen both financial resilience and institutional autonomy.
In his opening remarks, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, described the lecture as timely and commended the University Bursar, Dr. (Mrs.) Hadiza Goje, for her innovation, leadership, and consistency in sustaining the lecture series.
Speaking earlier, Dr. Goje highlighted the department’s achievements, including the digitalisation of operations, improved transparency, and capacity-building initiatives. She emphasized that universities must be proactive and creative in adopting sustainable financial models in today’s challenging economic climate.
The event also featured the presentation of a plaque and certificate of appreciation to Dr. Yahaya and the Bursar’s Award 2025 to outstanding staff members for their dedication and exemplary service.
