EMERGENCY STUDENTS’ UNION MEETING WITH THE VICE CHANCELLOR: KEY RESOLUTIONS REACHED

In a decisive move to address the growing concerns among students, the Students’ Union earlier today convened an emergency meeting with the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna. The meeting was prompted by widespread dissatisfaction over persistent disruptions in the academic calendar and issues affecting beneficiaries of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

During the meeting, Union Executives expressed deep concerns over how the elongated academic calendar continues to exert both financial and emotional pressure on the student body. Following a spirited and intense exchange between the Union and the Vice Chancellor, a series of resolutions were agreed upon in a bid to prioritize students’ welfare and academic stability.

Key Resolutions:

  1. Academic Calendar Reform
A revised, student-friendly academic calendar will be released immediately following the upcoming Senate meeting scheduled for April 30th, 2025.
  2. E-Test and E-Examination Adjustments
E-Tests for lower-level students and E-Examinations for higher-level students will now be conducted concurrently. Following the E-Test, lower-level E-Examinations will commence without delay. The Vice Chancellor clarified that the adjustment was necessitated by FUTMinna’s role as a JAMB CBT Centre and the timing of the Easter holiday, which would have caused a mid-session interruption.
  3. NELFUND Portal Glitches and Clarification

The discrepancies on the NELFUND portal, particularly the erroneous figures of N120,000 and N28,200, will be corrected. The correct disbursement for tuition fees stands at N59,950.
Students in the second batch who have received their upkeep allowance are assured that their registration fees have been settled, and this will reflect as soon as ITS portal issues are resolved.
Additionally, students who paid tuition before receiving their second batch disbursement are advised to request refunds by following the previously released Union guidelines.

The Students’ Union reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the interests of all students and reiterated that the Divine-Led Administration remains dedicated to ensuring that no student’s welfare is compromised.
