FROM MINNA TO THE WORLD: FUTMINNA CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF HUAWEI ICT COMPETITION 2024–2025 GLOBAL FINALS IN CHINA

The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) has made history on the global stage, emerging as a double Grand Prize winner in the prestigious Huawei ICT Competition 2024–2025 Global Finals, held in Shenzhen, China, from May 23 to May 26, 2025. FUTMINNA secured the Grand Prizes in both the Practice Competition , Computing Track, and the Network Track, solidifying its place as a powerhouse in ICT education.

This year’s global finals featured more than 170,000 students from over 2,000 universities across 80 countries, highlighting the competitive nature and prestige of the event. FUTMINNA’s success marks a major milestone, not just for the university, but for Nigeria’s growing prominence in the global tech ecosystem.

In addition to the grand prizes, FUTMINNA celebrated further recognition as Knimi Musa was awarded the Huawei Most Valuable Instructor Award.

📌A Journey of Dedication and Excellence

The road to Shenzhen began in October 2023 with Huawei’s roadshow and campus tour at FUTMINNA. Ten FUTMINNA students advanced through the national and African regional stages after rigorous training and internal competitions. Ultimately, two teams from FUTMINNA qualified for the global finals, an extraordinary feat.

At the finals, participants undertook a demanding 8-hour lab test, solving real-world scenarios that challenged their ability to deploy secure, fast, and scalable networking solutions. Their triumph reflects not only technical skill but also resilience, innovation, and teamwork.
